CSSI History

​

Community Support Services, Inc. is a private corporation that was formed in 1990 to provide services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was originally formed to meet the needs of individuals through private contracts with families of individuals or individuals themselves. In 1995, our agency began contracting with some of the Community Centered Boards when privately served individuals were able to receive government funding for services. This resulted in development of what is now called Supported Living Services. With much encouragement from the community, in 1998 our agency expanded into Comprehensive Services (Host Home Program, Apartment Program, Day Services Program and Employment Program).  In 2015, we proudly celebrated 25 years of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our provision of Host Home Program, Apartment Program, Supported Living Program, Private Program, Day Program, and Family Caregiver Program.  

 

The owner and Executive Director of our company, Jayne Tschirhart-Short, began her career supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 1981. Her experience (prior to the development of Community Support Services) included direct support services, middle management, programmatic coordination, and administration and executive directorship.  It was during her previous executive directorship that she and her husband, Gerald Short, created Community Support services, Inc.  Jayne Tschirhart-Short is joined by a seasoned administrative and management team whose combined experience brings over 175 years of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Community Support Services, Inc. takes pride in the longevity of our entire team working together in close collaboration with Jayne Tschirhart-Short towards our mutual mission for the people we support.  

 

Our agency team is made up of the people we support, our Mentoring Coordinators, our Host Home Providers, our Family Caregivers, our Management and Office Team and our Administrative Team.  We carefully select who joins our team, insisting on a shared vision and commitment in the provision of high quality support services at all times.
